Blender and me
For my first start I have most of the outer shell done. After three days, I have taught myself blender. I think I have mastered about 40% of it so far. Blender, I find is an awesome software package. It rivals packages that cost into the thousands of dollars. I sent them a paltry $50 donation. Their online documentation is excellent with many great tutorials. They even use wikimedia software like me!
Building this Corvette in virtual reality has been an excellent exercise in 3D modelling. I was inspired by this tutorial I came across on the net. I emailed the guy thanks. Man, is he talented! Check out this gallery.
My pal Angie and I tried to start a business back in the mid-nineties. I coined the name Visioneers, before some scanner mfr used it. We were ahead of our time. The hardware and software at the time were way too expensive and underpowered. I did all of this on a 4-yr old Linux laptop. The rendering of complex and lengthy animation will be the resource hog. Once modeled, a render farm could be used to do the mathematical heavy lifting. However, that's off in the distance.
Installation Errata
For Blender 2.42a on Linux, I needed to update these libs.
yum install libstdc++-devel compat-libstdc++-33
A good way to test that Blender has all the libs it needs:
blender -h
This should produce a lengthy usage message if all dependencies are satisfied.
