700+ Horsepower
With a ProCharger D-1SC installed by Kennedy's Dynotune, the Corvette becomes a fire-spitting Corvettezilla.
This is the evolution of my 2002 Corvette Z06.
It began life as a highly tuned, perfectly balanced wolf in wolf's clothing. However, there's always room for improvement. You can't blame Chevy for not max'ing out all the horsepower possible from the LS6. As a mass producing manufacturer, they have to be conservative, which is a relative term here.
This gives us C5 afficianados a starting point to personalize and customize to our unique needs. For example, 1. more power, 2. highly tuned suspension, and 3. even more power.
Initial Goals
- 600+ hp at the crank, 550+ rwhp Insane!
- Qtr mile in 10 seconds? Or even 9?!!!
- 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. Chevy claims 3.9 stock.
- Moderate practicality. Street drivability. Pump gas.
- No exterior changes for now. It'll be a sleeper.
Improving on the LS6
The following work was performed by Kennedy's Dynotune, December 2006.
See this example of their handiwork.
- ProCharger D-1SC tuner kit
- Twin high flow intercoolers at 10lbs boost
- Fuel injectors 42lbs with adapters
- Fuel systems upgrade
- Custom tuned on the dyno.
Supercharger Installed
(01/24/07) By today, the supercharger was installed. The dyno run (see inset) shows that the rear-wheel power rose from 362hp stock to 582 rwhp.
The ProCharger Corvette had 10 lbs boost. However, I talked it over with Bob Kennedy and we opted to go with 8 lbs boost, so it doesn't generate quite as much power. We decided that we'd lean toward the side of safety. I'll drive it around a year or so and we'll revisit it again.
Dynotuning Complete
(02/20/07) Constant snow has slowed progress. However, the results are astonishing. With boost limited to about 8psi, the dyno still measured 599 rwhp! For comparison purposes, the initial stock 405hp is now calculated to 713 HP at the engine. I calculate the trap speed is 131 mph. See Kennedy's own page profiling this project.
Taking Delivery
(3/15/07) Finally the Buffalo weather cleared for just long enough for me to come get the 'vette. I just barely outran the biggest snowstorm of the season.
