Wither Wiki

  • So it's a wiki, my own foray into cyberspace, the next evolution of an ordinary home page. Really, a wiki should be open for anyone to edit, but since this is my home page, I'm the only author. It's just a great format.
  • In the 21st century, a web presence will progressively become a part of a person's identity. So you can get your own wiki or join the cattle on myspace.
  • Having said that, the real original reason I set up a wiki at all was to have a place to store and file information useful to, well just me. I had a plethora of text files and bookmarks on multiple computers where I store small factoids and information sources. Hopefully, a wiki will let me keep it all together in a searchable persistent knowledge base. It will also allow me to share a kind of web scrapbook with friends and family.

Want your own Wiki?

Let me know. I'll hook you up! Wikis are among the fastest growing type of web sites because they're easy. If you're a non-techie, a wiki is a quick way to put up a web page. You can change content without having to call in a guru webmaster. There's very little to learn, less so than even a word processor. All you need is a web browser.

Where do I get a Wiki?

The best thing to do is get a GoDaddy virtual host (linux, not windows) and upload mediawiki software.

Hosted wiki

Here are a couple options I came across. I have never used them, but they look like they have potential.

PB Wiki offers free wikis. PB as in peanut butter?

Wikihosting.net offers wikis for $5/mo.

Gabriel Wicke does a bit more and is worth checking out.

You can start a wiki on just about any web hosting service too.
