Windows
From Koset
A faulty product
At last count, there were over 125,000 viruses for Windows and less than 5,000 for Macintosh and Linux combined. Why?
- Windows is less secure. So it is far easier to write malware for it.
- Windows source code is written like spaghetti, poorly structured, undisciplined, so it is impossible to maintain. This makes it highly unstable and prone to errors and problems that put your files and productivity at risk.
- There are more Windows PCs than anything else. (A sheep says, baaaa.)
- Hackers have a vendetta against Bill Gates. Maybe, but the majority of virus writers are out for simple malace and/or cash. Yes, they make money on infecting PCs. Some have made hundreds of thousands of dollars for a single program.
So what do we do about it?
You don't have to use Windows, y'know. There are many alternatives! Here are the top two that I'd recommend.
- Get a Macintosh! There's nothing that Windows does better than Mac. If you think that a Mac is more expensive than a PC, factor in the cost of problems Windows causes.
- If you have to have a Dell or some other PC, try Linux. It can be just as easy as but far more secure than Windows. You don't have to be a techie anymore. Free versions like Ubuntu were made specifically for home users who are not computer scientists.
I'll even help you make the switch! One final word of warning, Koset is discontinuing his free tech support service for people with Windows. It's my New Year's resolution for 2007. However, I'll enthusiastically help anyone on Mac or Linux!
